Gabby and Jared had an intimate wedding ceremony on the beach in Cape May, New Jersey on a gorgeous sunny day, surrounded by family and friends. Cape May is a few hours outside the City, so I hopped in a ZipCar and drove all the way down to the end of the Garden State Park Way, which actually ends in Exit 0, something the locals are proud of.
Gabby got ready with her sister and mom, and then I checked on the guys and got ready to set up a "first look", but last minute Gabby and Jared ended up not being into it. We hadn't heard from the mayor that was supposed to marry them so they were a little worried and slightly stressed, and it was one of those times when you need your person for hugging more than you need a picturesque big reveal.
"Eff it," I said. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to. It's your wedding." I let them snuggle privately for a few minutes in peace (although I sort of stuck my head around the corner and snapped a few shots because I'm shameless) and then we went down to the hotel lobby. Had we not found the mayor, I vowed to ask every single person sitting by the pool if they had the power vested in them by the state of New Jersey to marry people and would they mind toweling off and saving the day, but we did, eventually, and they got married with seagulls flying overhead and passersby grinning at the fact that they unexpectedly came across a wedding.
It's a lovely town, and I'll definitely be back for a long weekend next summer!
