I had exactly 24 hours in San Francisco. I was traveling for something else and realized that for under fifty dollars I could cram in a flight to see Gavin before flying back home to New York, so I jumped at the opportunity. He's one of my favorites. I arrived at his door after endless travel delays, and was immediately greeted with a beer and promise of a burrito. Exceptional burritos are pretty much the ONLY thing you can't get in NYC (that and cheap avocados.)
We did a mini headshot session over the course of the full day I was there. The first photo in this series is his genuine amused-and-proud reaction to me snapping into professional photographer mode, and every time I look at it my heart catches in my throat. We met in 2008 when I was essentially a punk who didn't know what to do with my life, and he's watched and encouraged me as I built my business.
Thanks for being the friend that cheers me on, Gavin. I like your face.
