I met Carissa in 2001 when Jen - my closest friend from high school, who second-shoots with me occasionally - went to college where they were roommates. Carissa is pretty awesome, which is why I found myself piled in a car with Jen, Jen's four month old daughter, and Jen's sister headed to Rochester to go to her baby shower, which ended up being her baby shower / shot gun wedding. I do not drive to Rochester for just anyone.
"We'll get married," Carissa had said, "if I can find someone to marry us." Since I have the power vested in me, I offered to tie their knot.
On the morning of the wedding I ran around with my camera, helping Carissa with her hair in the back, double checking my notes while practicing my "authoritative and loving" voice, and occasionally popping the baby on my hip for a cuddle. Jen made an amazing backdrop out of burlap and lace for them to get married in front of. A friend of Carissa's came to decorate the wedding cake, which was one big and one little Wegman's vanilla cake stacked on each other (this was my idea, and I'm super pleased with myself.) Jen had the idea to put the raspberries on.
I did a good job with the ceremony , I think. When we got to the part for the Christian blessing, Jen passed me the camera and took over while I photographed the prayer. Jen took the camera back, I pronounced them husband and wife, she took family photos and couple photos (including the incredible one below in the cherry blossoms that I love).
It was hectic, it was beautiful, and we went home with hearts brimming with love, leaving the Matt and Carissa happily married, on the brink of parenthood.
Matt, Carissa congratulations! It was an honor, and I cannot wait to hold your little one.
