This post is written for other photographers. I'm writing a series of "pro tips" here, but calling them "pub tips" as I'm usually spouting them off while perched on a bar stool, sipping on a beer. These are the things I would tell you if we were having a pint together. It is important to me to reinvest my business earnings back into furthering my education. Learning about my craft is wonderful for me, and I believe that my clients deserve a well-educated photographer.
I attended Walk Through a Wedding hosted by Justin and Mary. It was an intense two days filled with learning and laughter, and I enjoyed the education, being back in my home state of Connecticut and meeting people from all across the US and Canada. During the breaks, we attendees sipped coffee and chatted about our businesses, our lives at home, and our hopes for the future. I left with my heart brimming.
The Marantzes love opening their home up to photographers. I know this because I asked them point blank, "Seriously? You invite all these people into your home?" and they laughed and said, "Yeah!" and it showed that they genuinely enjoyed having us there in their living room. They even made us a delicious, beautifully set dinner the night before. This is very much in keeping with my mentality of "do all things with love".
They set up two days worth of photo sessions for us and we shot at the Lighthouse Point Carousel in New Haven, CT. Here are some of the photos I shot; all of them were processed using only the free VSCO 00 presets I told you about in the last Pub Tip, because I thought it would be fun to see them in action in a wedding setting.
(I also turned my camera on my surroundings, some other photographers, and Justin himself who was teaching me some off-camera techniques.)
