Stephanie and I have known each other for a really long time; she managed Word, one of the best book stores in Brooklyn, and I met her at a book reading in 2008 or something like that. She's been following my career since the beginning, so it was totally thrilling to have her reach out.
She wrote, "To be honest, the photography is the only part of wedding planning that scares me. I really dread having my photo taken and so does Trevor. As a result we have been together for over 3 years, and have maybe 5 photos of ourselves together! Ah! But I trust you--your photos are always astonishing and I have a lot of respect for your approach."
This is awesome to hear as a wedding photographer, because it is SO IMPORTANT that you trust your wedding photographer and their vision, and that you like them!
The wedding took place in her mother's backyard. Home weddings have an extra layer of magic to them, and it was cool to watch all of their friends from Brooklyn not quite want to leave at the end of the night. It was cozy.
Other fun details: her gorgeously pregnant sister, Meredith, served as the only bridesmaid. She and Stephanie wear matching engraved initial necklaces, which I photographed on a rock covered with moss in their mom's garden. When I went to return their necklaces, I found Meredith first and tried to hand her the "M", and she shook her head. "We wear each others."
Everyone had a blast with Trevor's dance party play lists that kept people on the garage-turn-dance floor all night, and I loved the laid back atmosphere of lemonade, booze, and bbq. It was a fantastic wedding.
