I met Elasea and Sadiki - the singer-bass jazz duo Acute Inflections - at an event in Brooklyn, hosted by Munaluchi Bride, which is a magazine dedicated to promoting images of brides (and wedding vendors) of color. We had a great time chatting, and wound up in DUMBO in Brooklyn a few weeks later taking these gorgeous promotional photos for them. I confessed it was not in my wheel house to do band photography, but I DO do engagement photos, of course. I photographed them in the same flirty spirit that I shoot couples, and it worked out great.
Elasea kind of created a stir in her dresses; the gown she borrowed from Lovely Bride in Manhattan. And that HAT. It's a traditional "head whimsy" made by the sadly website-less Mari O'Connor.
Their music is wonderful; I enjoyed them so much, in fact, that I had them play my cocktail hour at my wedding a few weeks later. You can hire them by visiting their website; they are amazing.
If you want to hear them play, they have a month-long residency a the WestHouse hotel in Manhattan every Wednesday in December at 7pm. 201 West 55th Street. There's no cover charge!
