"I’ve always dreamed of absolutely “slaying” on my wedding day, haha. Hopefully that will come to fruition."

Netta, you nailed it.

They wanted to do something different and special for their wedding: a destination wedding to Bali, Indonesia! They rented a private villa for the week that felt like it belonged in the set of a rock video.

Because it was a destination wedding, I opted to scope out the venue and photograph the details the day before, including her hand painted pink and gold gown.

They got ready in separate wings of the house, then had a first look in the middle. We ventured out with the videographers to take some portraits in nearby rice patties, and they hired a vintage gold Mercedes to get around in style.

Here is the advantage of a private venue wedding: the luxury of time. They took an hour after portraits to relax with their friends and pass out gifts, and then met up again for the ceremony, which included one of my all time fave wedding details: a shower of rose petals at the end.

Because we were so close to the equator, the sun plunged us into evening immediately, and they had their first dance under a deep blue sky.

What followed next was speeches, dinner, an outfit change to more casual clothing, and a whole lot of dancing, and then everyone into the pool!

My fave details:

  • Sean-Paul's vintage brooch. It's a jaguar, a symbol of Guyana.
  • Fellow Brooklynite Hushed Commotion made her hair band, in lieu of a veil.
  • The "PFAM" letters spell out the funny nickname they've had for their family unit for years.
  • The "best woman" saying "fuck it" and jumping into the pool in her gold cocktail bridesmaid dress.
  • Netta and Sean-Paul are not officially professional dancers, but could totally moonlight if they wanted.
